אומנות דיגיטאלית על קצות האצבעות DIGITUS, או "אצבע" מהווה שורש למילה הלועזית "דיגיטאלי". צמח הדיגיטאליס , ועליו בצורת כף יד פרושה עם חמש אצבעות , מכיל דיגיטאלין, היעילה בטיפול במחלות לב. דיגיטאלי, אם כן, קשור לאצבעות. אבות אבותיו של האדם המודרני גילו במרוצת הזמן צורך למנות את חפציהם, בני משפחתם, מחזורי הזמן*, וכו'. ומצאו כי אצבעות גפיהם מהוות אמצעי מצוין להיעזר בהם. המילה DIGITUS הפכה עם כן נרדפת למספר או סיפרה. * (זרועות השעון חסרות האצבעות לעולם לא תהינה קשורות למשהו דיגיטאלי: כמובן שהן אנלוגיות! ולא נסחף להתבדר כאן עם דימויים –אנאלוגיות- אנלוגיים, אנאליטיים או אנאליים ...) היות וכולנו משתמשים היום במילה "דיגיטאלי " בהקשר של מכשירים אלקטרוניים המופעלים בשיטה מיוחדת מבוססת על ספרות, ובנוסף לרבים מהם יש מקשים לאצבעות, נשאר לנו רק לברר מה היא אומנות... אך נשאיר את הסוגיה לפעם אחרת, ונפנה עכשיו לאתר המוקדש ל: אומנות דיגיטאלית ! “In fact, there are so many forms of screen-based digital imaging that such a global category as "screen art" may not even be useful without some further assiduous attempts at classification.
